Privacy policy

Short version: we collect your contact details only when you ask us to pass them to a contractor, we give them to exactly one contractor, and we will delete them on request.

Who we are

Kildrin is operated from Toronto, Ontario. For any privacy question, including access and deletion requests, write to privacy@kildrin.ca. We answer within 30 days, which is the timeline PIPEDA sets.

What we collect

When you just read the site

Nothing you type. The cost tools run entirely in your browser: when you drag the slider or pick a property type, that figure is never sent to us. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP address and browser type, for security and troubleshooting.

When you request a quote

Name, email address, phone number, postal code, property type, project timeline, and the job you enquired about. If you entered a figure into the quote checker before submitting, that figure is included so the contractor can price against the same scope.

We also record the date and time you gave consent and a cryptographic hash of the exact consent wording shown to you. That is a requirement of Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation, and it protects you: it means we can always prove what you actually agreed to rather than what we later claim you agreed to.

Who we share it with

One contractor. Never more. When you submit a request we match it to a single vetted contractor who works your postal code and that job, and we pass them your details so they can contact you. We do not sell the same request to multiple companies, and we do not sell contact details to anyone who is not the contractor handling your job.

If no contractor on our roster covers your area, your request is held and nobody receives it. We will tell you that on submission.

We use service providers to operate the site: a hosting provider, a database provider, an email delivery service and an SMS provider. They process data on our instructions only. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Advertising

We may display advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info. Advertisers never receive the details you submit through the quote form.

How long we keep it

Quote requests are kept for two years, which covers the CASL record- keeping period and the realistic life of a renovation project, then deleted. Server logs are kept for 90 days.

Your rights

• Ask what we hold about you and get a copy.
• Ask us to correct anything wrong.
• Ask us to delete it. We will, unless we are legally required to keep it.
• Withdraw consent at any time. Note that once a contractor has your details we cannot make them forget; you would need to ask them directly, and we will tell you who they are.

Permit data

The cost figures on this site come from the City of Toronto’s published building permit record. That source contains street addresses and builder names. We do not store or publish either. We keep the first three characters of the postal code and nothing else that locates a property, so no figure on this site can be traced back to an identifiable household. If you believe something here identifies a specific property, write to us and we will look at it immediately.

Children

This site is for homeowners and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top. Changes never apply retroactively to information already collected under an earlier version.
